It’s Official - Sarah is a Piepkorn!!

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

This morning, we went back to the Provincial Office to finalize our adoption. We filled out more paperwork, had our photo taken with Sarah, and spoke to two government officials. Sarah is now officially a Piepkorn!

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at a Carrefour KangWang store. They have clothes, groceries, books, toys, etc. (think of Walmart). Sarah is a little bigger around the tummy than we anticipated. We looked for more clothes for her. The children’s dept. didn’t have much of a selection. We had fun looking for snack food. Bought Pringles, Lay’s potato chips, Kellogg’s Honey Nut Cheerios, Oreo cookies, Chinese rice cookies, Werther’s caramels, suckers, and Coke Zero. Got back to our hotel after 1:00 p.m. Everyone was hot, tired and cranky. The weather is sweltering in Guangzhou.

While we were trying to eat lunch, Sarah had another melt down. Not sure what provoked it this time. She took off her red tennis shoes (she loves them) and put on the pink sandals she had on when we got her. Sarah screamed for her foster Ma-Ma for over an hour and tried to get us to open the hotel room door so she could leave. Finally, Tim opened his arms wide and invited her to get a hug. She initially resisted, but the second time he opened his arms she ran to him. Sarah wanted to sit in Tim’s lap to finish the lunch she’d started a long time ago. Sarah was pretty exhausted from crying, so she took a nap with Tim and Jenna. She fell asleep laid out on top of her Ba-Ba (dad). He was unsuccessful trying to get her to stretch out beside him. She’s pretty heavy (24.5 lbs), so Tim didn’t have much of a nap.

Tonight we ate supper at an Italian restaurant. It was a nice change of pace. We ordered a pizza and spaghetti. The food was great! After supper, Sarah bonded with Margaret. Jenna and Margaret were in the ladies room and Sarah got scared that her Ma-Ma was leaving her. Sarah grabbed her backpack (she takes it everywhere we go) and headed after them crying for Ma-Ma. She ran to Margaret and jumped into her arms with a big smile.

On Wednesday, we finally have some free time . . . . hallelujah!! We’ve been busy every day completing paperwork and running to appointments. We’re looking forward to exploring Shamian Island and getting in some family bonding time.
